John D. “Jack” Pavlack, 70, La Porte, Ind., passed away Friday, March 14, 2014, at 2:55 p.m. in Indiana University Health La Porte Hospital.
Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 20, 2014, at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, 1506 Washington St., Michigan City, with Rev. Walter Ciesla officiating. Cremation will follow services. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington St., Michigan City. The American Legion Skwiat Post 451 and VFW Post 2536 will conduct a Memorial service Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel and full military services Thursday at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church.
He was born April 8, 1943, in Michigan City, Ind., to the late John and Rose (Topa) Pavlack. On October 14, 1967, in Michigan City, Ind., he married Paulette Tesanovich, who survives in La Porte, Ind.; Also surviving are two sons, John C. (Kristi) Pavlack and Eric (Lorrie) Pavlack, both of Indianapolis, Ind.; daughter, Andrea (Adam) Childress of La Porte, Ind.; five grandchildren, Jordan, Isabella, John “Jack”, Katie and Patrick; sister, Janice (Richard) Schumaker of La Porte, Ind.; two brothers, Eugene E. (Diana) Pavlack of Michigan City, Ind., and Terry T. (Barbara) Pavlack of Greenwood, Ind. He was loved by many nieces and nephews;
Jack earned his B.S. degree from St. Joseph College, Rensselaer, Ind., and retired from Bethlehem Steel as a Database Administrator. He was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church and a U.S. Air Force veteran having served in Scotland. He was a member of the American Legion Skwiat Post 451. Jack adored and dearly loved his grandchildren. He was known to his family as “King Jack,” loved competition and enjoyed camping. He was a great fan of IU basketball and a die-hard Cubs fan. Jack was known for his sharp sense of humor, extraordinary generosity and deep compassion and kindness.
