Impact A Hero (IAH) is thrilled to announce an award from The George Foundation. Funds from a $10,000 grant will be used for financial fitness courses for veterans in the Fort Bend County area.

“When Impact A Hero was founded in 2005, the organization focused on financial assistance for severely wounded veterans in need.” Stated Mike Nasche, IAH Executive Director. “15 years later the needs of the veterans have significantly changed; Impact A Hero now focuses on the personal and professional development of veterans, to include financial education courses.” The financial fitness courses cover budgeting, reducing debit, goal setting, making large purchases, and much more.

“The George Foundation recognizes and appreciates our local veterans, and our Trustees are pleased to support Impact a Hero’s mission. We are hopeful this grant will expand the availability of services to our local veteran community,” shared Roger Adamson, CEO.

Because of the program’s success, there has been an increase in demand. The grant from The George Foundation will allow Impact A Hero to hold additional courses focused in the Fort Bend County area. Impact A Hero is looking forward to expanding its relationships with veterans in the community.

“As our staff has grown and our mission has become more refined, we felt it was an important step to have a professional office environment,” says Chairman of the Board, Doug Hall. “It is a place where our Veteran’s can feel comfortable discussing any topic and sharing their successes and frustrations. This also allows for better collaboration between the staff, so we can continue to plan ways to make Impact a Hero A great resource for the veterans and their families in the community.”

The IAH staff has been working from this new space since early January of this year but held an official Open House on the 21^st of March. The open house was an opportunity to welcome past and present board members, veterans, contributors, volunteers and other members of the community to see the new space and to learn more about what Impact A Hero has planned for the future.

During the event, a special ribbon cutting was held to dedicate the office conference room; The Cpl. Casey Owens Memorial Conference Room. In September 2004, on his second deployment to Iraq, USMC Cpl. Owens’ vehicle struck two anti-tank mines. This resulted in severe injuries including the amputation of his right leg above the knee and his left leg below the knee. Cpl. Owens is one of the first veterans that Impact A Hero helped when the organization first started. Casey had multiple issues to overcome but he became an advocate for the treatment of Veterans and went on to participate in the USMC Marathon and was also a Paralympic skier. Due to his struggle with post-traumatic stress, Casey took his life on October 15, 2014. Casey’s mother and sister attended the Open House, spoke about Casey, and cut the ribbon during the dedication ceremony. A replica set of his dress blue uniform and other items will be on permanent display in a special case in the conference room.

“At Impact a Hero we believe Post-Traumatic Stress can be overcome through Post-Traumatic Growth, and this office gives us the ability to deliver that Post-Traumatic Growth training to veterans and their families,” said the Executive Director, Mike Nasche. “Every time we enter the Cpl. Casey Owens Memorial Conference Room we are reminded of the importance of our mission and why we work so hard to help veterans struggling with Post-Traumatic Stress. True healing is taking place inside these walls and the memory of Casey inspires us to keep moving forward.”
